Old German Money
The national German currency Mark came into existence in 1871 after the Grand German unification. Before that the old German money used to be a local issue with the states, all having their own currency, coins and banknotes. Then until 1906 the Reichsbank could only issue banknotes of 100 Mark or more. Form 1 January 1910 the banknotes for the Reichsbank came to be the legal tender in Germany. On 13 July 1914 their convertibility into gold was suspended. After World War 1 the German currency saw a tough time. The German Mark started falling reaching a vicious circle by 1923. Towards the end of World War 2 the monetary situation in Germany was at the verge of a complete breakdown.
